Preview: Molex Transcend RM2 and PM3 LED modules
Jun 26, 2009
Highs: Dimmable, no DC power supply is required, GU-24 socket allows easy retrofit.
Transcend is a line of self-contained, pluggable light modules based on the Acriche 4W AC LED from Seoul Semiconductor. It was developed by Solid State Lighting (SSL) business unit of Molex Incorporated. Transcend RM2 and PM3 Major Specifications:
The Transcend RM2 is a 2-inch MR-16 sized directional light module with 15-degree spot, 25-degree medium flood or 25-degree tight medium flood distributions.
The Transcend PM3 is ideal for backlighting and indirect lighting effects within luminaries with luminous materials. It features low profile aluminum heat sink and 180-degree wide diffuse angle optics. PM3 dimensions: 76mm (3”) outer diameter, 18mm (0.71”) high.
Both RM2 and PM3 require adequate airflow to support heat extraction: they are not intended for use in enclosed fixtures. While Warm Wihite version offers acceptable color rendering (CRI 80), the Daylight White (CRI 65) version can not be recommended for any practical use. In upcoming review we will test both to see if this conclusion is correct.
Introduced at LIGHTFAIR International, the Transcend Lighting Series is available through Molex' exclusive channel partner, Leviton. Toll free in North America 1-800-833-3532. Molex promises to offer DC versions of the RM2 and PM3 in late 2009. Last updated: June 26, 2009
